Lincoln Electric System approves increase to 2025 electric rates

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Electric System board on Friday approved a 3.3% average increase to electric rates starting in 2025.

This means LES customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will pay $3.50 more per month.

Other rate classes would see increases varying from 2.1% to 10%.

This is the third straight year that LES has increased its rates. In 2022, the utility lowered its rates 1% on average.

“LES has a long-standing dedication to providing safe, reliable and sustainable electric service to our customers,” chief financial officer Emily Koenig said last month in a press release. “As our community’s sole electric provider, we are committed to maintaining a resilient electric system while keeping our rates stable, affordable and equitable. The budgeted rate increase is needed to meet these values.”

The rate increase still has to be approved by the city council before going into effect.
