Nebraska’s bishops issue letter to immigrants amid fear of mass deportation

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – With the fear of mass deportation looming for some, the bishops of Nebraska shared a letter on Thursday to help calm some nerves.
Archbishop George Lucas, Bishop James Conley and Bishop Joseph Hanefeldt recognized how many immigrants are in Nebraska and hoped to put them at ease, saying “you are not alone.”
They pledged to advocate “for the respect for human dignity and for family relationships.”
The bishops said Mary and Joseph were immigrants when Jesus was born.
“We remember that the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph became migrants, fleeing with the infant Savior to escape violence and persecution. In those difficult and dangerous days, they put all their hope in the promises of God.”
