Slightly warmer, sunny kicking off 2025
It’s all about perspective when talking about Nebraska weather. Sure, the last couple days have been colder with temperatures in the 30s. Last weekend, temperatures were in the 50s and 60s, so it’s definitely starting to feel more like winter out there.
But it’s about time. And we can’t sit comfortably where we’re at now, either.
So we’ll soak up more sun rays today and love the upper 30s this New Year’s Day for really the warmest day for quite some time looking ahead, because temperatures bottom out in the single digits and teens next week.
Some snow cover in northern Nebraska will keep high temperatures today closer to the freezing mark. Those without snow will be either close to pushing 40, or well into the middle 40s toward southwest Nebraska.
A disturbance tonight will increase cloud cover statewide, with very isolated snow showers first out west. That disturbance organizes a little better through the early morning hours of Thursday, bringing a quick shot of snow around the morning commute.
Most of this looks to miss us just to the north, through northeast Nebraska.
Accumulations will be around a half inch to an inch toward Omaha and areas north for the most part. There’s a small chance Lincoln sees just a bit more than a trace of snow from this round.
We are still awaiting that first measurable snow of the season. If not Thursday morning, this weekend could be the better bet.
