Nebraska fuel tax increase may go unnoticed

Nebraska’s state gasoline tax will increase 1.6 cents starting Jan. 1st with a new rate of 29.6 cents per gallon.

But drivers might not notice the increase, as gasoline prices continue to fall.

AAA reports the average gas price in Nebraska is $2.09 per gallon, and 44 stations of the 178 surveyed are at or below $2 per gallon.

Nebraska’s fuel prices sit at 30 cents below last years average at this time.

This is largely because crude oil costs fell below $45 a barrel this week in the U.S. trading market, to a new 52-week low.
