Continuation of the cold in days to come

If you’ve been a Nebraskan for a lifetime or even a while, you know it can certainly be worse at this time of year. January had to show up at some point.

Thankfully, we aren’t even going to touch on any wind chills 30 to 40 below this time around.

Yet another cold day is in the forecast for Tuesday of this week. Highs will be nearing the lower 20s but with more cloud cover and more wind by the afternoon, we’ll experience frigid afternoon wind chills.

Hbh Temp Chill Planner

Clouds will increase throughout the day, with partly cloudy conditions transitioning to mostly cloudy later on.

Peak winds during the afternoon hours today will be around 20-25 mph out of the northwest for southeast Nebraska.

Jess Model Wind

That’ll be enough to keep afternoon wind chills around the single digits, if not just above that.

Morning wind chills in the days ahead get colder by Wednesday morning. But the end of the week is starting to look better.

4 Day Wind Chill

Especially with afternoon highs finally warming back to around normal temperatures for this time of the year.

4 Day Temps

The average high temperature for Lincoln is right at 35 degrees, and we’ll be below that for really all of this week. Especially on Tuesday though, we’ll be about 12 degrees colder than that average high at this point in January. So while it could be worse, it’ll still be rather cold.

Jb Weekend Fcst 1

But there should be some slight warming toward the end of the week and this weekend. There will also only be small chances for any precipitation, including a couple chances for some flurries/light snow Thursday and late on Saturday.
