Former northeast Nebraska teacher pleads not guilty to sex abuse

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A former northeast Nebraska teacher pleaded not guilty Friday to sexually abusing a student.
Nixel Ortiz, a former teacher and coach at Madison High School, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse by a school employee.

Court documents say the then-28-year-old had a sexual encounter with an 18-year-old male at her apartment.
Investigators said it happened on the night of May 5, after the Madison High School graduation.
Ortiz’s next court hearing in Madison County District Court is scheduled for March 7.
