Doane University breaks ground on $23 million performing arts center

CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) – Construction began Friday afternoon on Doane University’s new $23 million performing arts center.

Doane said while most universities are scaling back funding for performing arts, it is doubling down.

“We think it’s not only going to be a great opportunity for our students to get better; we think it’s going to be a great magnet for enrollment,” President Roger Hughes said.

About $20 million for the project was privately funded by alumni.

It will be located next to Doane’s football stadium.

The project is set to be completed around July 2026.
