Gage County asking for help from the state for Beatrice Six settlement

They’re being tasked with footing a $28.1 million settlement, and now people living in Gage County are asking the state to help.

Community leaders plan to ask for a loan to help pay the civil judgement in the Beatrice Six case, where six people were wrongfully convicted of murder.

The county recently decided to tax its citizens in order to pay off the debt because there were few other options that would keep Gage County from filing for bankruptcy.
