Central Nebraska homicide suspect dies at Lincoln hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol announced Friday that the suspect in a central Nebraska homicide has died.

Toby Gray, 39, was pronounced dead at Bryan West Medical Center seven days after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Gray had been in custody at the hospital after the death of his wife, 35-year-old Heather Gray, on Feb. 21 in Clay County.

The state patrol said in a press release that Gray had called 911 threatening harm against his wife.

Deputies responded to the home in rural Harvard, where they found Heather Gray dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

Toby Gray was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There were three children in the house at the time of the shooting.

Gray was later charged with first-degree murder.
