Crews battle small grass fire near Waverly

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Crews worked to put out a grass fire in Lancaster County on Sunday.

Just before 2 p.m., Waverly Fire & Rescue was called to a field near North 98th Street and Raymond Road, just northwest of Waverly.

According to the fire department, the landowner used a burn permit last week, and the fire rekindled due to the strong winds in the area.

The blaze burned less than an acre of ground.

Officials said they are not authorizing any burn permits until at least March 18 due to the wind and dry conditions.

The fire department is asking all landowners to keep an eye on recently burned items on their properties.
