Did you hear wind whistle through your vents during Lincoln blizzard? You’re not alone

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The strong winds and cold temperatures Tuesday into Wednesday caused trouble for heating and plumbing systems for plenty of people in the Lincoln area.

Green’s Furnace and Plumbing owner Jeremy Roebke said his company fielded more than half a dozen calls Tuesday night alone.

Some of those calls were even done over FaceTime as roads became impassable.

He said winds that strong can really stress heating and plumbing systems.

They come in through outdoor heating units and blow around in interior vents.

“With the high winds, there was things blowing,” Roebke said. “It was crazy windy last night. So, it does push really hard on a house, and the systems are working extra hard with that.”

Many more service calls came Wednesday morning, Roebke said, but the company delayed its start to let the roads clear up.

There were also problems with pilot lights and water heaters going out, plus plenty of frozen pipes.

“Some houses have water pipes on the outside wall, and they froze up, and we had some burst pipes,” Roebke said. “Some people might have forgotten to take their garden hoses off.”
