Winter winding down to the north, then on to a warmer weekend

Snow continues for those mainly north of the interstate through northeast Nebraska Friday morning. There were just a few snow reports from northern Nebraska that came in between 6 – 8 a.m. this morning.

Some snow will graze the interstate between York/Aurora/Grand Island back toward North Platte during the morning commute.

Those still expecting more accumulating snow through the morning are under either a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory. The time has been trimmed back for these headlines: now in effect until noon for north-central and northwest Nebraska, until 3 p.m. Friday for Kearney-Grand Island up through northeast Nebraska.

Here’s what Stormcast is showing this morning into the afternoon Friday, March 7th.

It won’t be much for us in southeast Nebraska (light wintry mix/drizzle possible), and precipitation ends early this afternoon for everyone.

Beyond 7 a.m. this morning, maybe another 1″ or so for those in northeast Nebraska. But much less elsewhere.

Temperatures won’t budge much through the day with highs in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees. A northeast breeze will be out there with gusts approaching about 30 mph during the early afternoon.

Then we warm up a lot this weekend! Temperatures jump to the 50s and 60s for Saturday and Sunday with plenty of sun. Winds won’t be bad either.

By Monday, we’ll be even warmer with the wind picking up more. Forecasted highs will come close to the record for that day (March 10 record: 78° in Lincoln set back in 2014).
