Absolutely beautiful day in the works Wednesday; active end to this week

We couldn’t ask for much more with wonderful weather in store for boys state basketball and Husker baseball all going on this Wednesday.

Next to no wind is expected and highs will be around the lower 70s.

Husker baseball starts at 6 p.m. at Haymarket Park with temperatures right around 70°. Winds will remain light through the end of the game with clearing skies and a beautiful sunset.

Warmer weather with more wind returns Thursday.

END OF THE WEEK (Thursday through Saturday)

Fire danger concerns will increase for the end of this week, first on Thursday through central portions of the state.

Southerly winds will be gusting on the order of 30-40 mph from southwest Nebraska up through northeast Nebraska during the afternoon and evening.

But the wind gets worse for everyone Friday into Saturday as a strong system sweeps through. Winds will be out of the south to start on Friday before switching to the northwest into Saturday for eastern Nebraska.

A couple strong to severe storms can’t be ruled out in Nebraska as the storms spin up and fan out across the state by the later afternoon hours.

But the higher severe weather potential still remains well off to the south and east for Friday night into Saturday. All severe weather hazards will be possible as a very strong line of storms moves east from Nebraska into Iowa and Missouri.

On the backside of this system, rain will transition over to snow for those in western and central Nebraska Friday evening into Saturday.

Blowing snow and messy travel will be more of a problem for northeast Nebraska into Saturday morning as this system lifts northeast.
