Breezy while warming up this week
One more chilly start this morning before warmer conditions in the days ahead. We’ll get a nice warm up throughout the day Tuesday, climbing to the upper 60s this afternoon.
A warm front along with some southerly winds today will help.
We all get warmer across the state today. Temperatures will be warmest in southwest Nebraska, approaching almost 80°.
A southerly breeze will increase this morning, gusting up to around 30 mph during the second part of the day as we warm. Higher west winds in the Panhandle look to gust over 40 mph at times.
Also, it’s that time of the year.
Don’t be surprised if you smell smoke or the skies get hazy today. Smoke from several ongoing fires in the Kansas Flint Hills may be transported in from these southerly winds.
After today, winds will mainly be out of the north through the end of the workweek. That will whisk away smoke tomorrow. Our windiest day comes Thursday.
The next day we’ll feel the south winds again will boost our temperatures to near 80 (Saturday).
The rest of this week remains mostly dry outside of a very small chance for a spot shower Wednesday. The 10-day forecast doesn’t have another chance for rain after that until potentially the middle of next week.
