Teens ticketed after vehicle gets stuck in uncured cement on Lancaster County bridge

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Three teens drove past road construction signs on Friday morning to get coffee — but they ended up with traffic citations.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 9:30 a.m. when three vehicles drove past the road closed signs on the First Street and Old Cheney Road bridge.

The first vehicle, an Audi A4, had to stop due to construction equipment on the bridge.  A second vehicle, an Audi S4, also stopped before colliding with the first vehicle.

But a Chevy Cruze, driven by a 15-year-old girl, didn’t stop and crashed into the Audi S4, according to Houchin.

The Audi S4 got pushed onto uncured cement and became stuck.  The sheriff’s office estimates there is about $200,000 in damage to the bridge.

As of Monday morning, the vehicle had not been removed, as an engineer needs to inspect the bridge’s damage first.

The drivers of the Audis, two 18-year-old boys, and the girl were issued traffic violation citations, Houchin said.

Investigators learned the three teens were on their way to get coffee at Scooters.

No one was injured.
