Hazy skies Sunday, heat wave on the horizon

Sunday, scattered rain showers are expected to develop along a cold front in western Nebraska and move eastward through the morning and afternoon. Smoke will also be present across parts of the region Sunday afternoon into the evening, lingering into Monday morning. Temperatures will climb back into the 80s and even low 90s this week, with chances for storms returning later in the week.

Tonight looks to be quite pleasant with temperatures in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Sunday, temperatures will be cooler in the 60s and 70s for most of us. A cold front will move through early Sunday morning with some rain showers. The cooler temperatures is where the rain and cloud cover will be.

StormCast shows some rain showers developing out west overnight. These rain showers will move east early Sunday morning. Some of this rain might not make it to the ground due to the dry air at the surface. The cold front takes the moisture and creates it into rain, which leaves drier air behind it.

Potential rainfall totals through Sunday afternoon range from a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch.

Sunday afternoon, the smoke aloft moves south from the Dakotas. By Sunday afternoon, the smoke will continue to move south and linger into Monday morning.

The smoke near the surface will be minimum through tonight. Sunday afternoon, parts of eastern Nebraska could see some haziness closer to the surface, which could affect people with respiratory symptoms. This smoke will linger into Monday morning.

Starting late this week, temperatures look to be well above average for most of the U.S. Nebraska could be seeing temperatures in the 90s by Fathers Day.

Sunday, a chance for some rain showers across the state. temperatures will feel quite cooler due to the cold front moving through early Sunday morning. This week, temperatures warm up quite a bit into the upper 80s and even low to mid 90s. Some rain and storm chances return Thursday and Friday and continue into next weekend.
