Fireworks cause $25,000 in smoke damage to west Lincoln home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews battled a house fire in west Lincoln on Thursday that was caused by fireworks.

Just after 12 p.m., several Lincoln Fire & Rescue units were sent to the area of Southwest 26th and Garfield streets.

When crews arrived, the fire was already put out, but LFR said there was significant smoke damage.

According to a spokeswoman with LFR, an off-duty firefighter who lives three houses away saw the call on his phone and put the flames out with a fire extinguisher.

LFR said the fire caused $25,000 in damage.
