Several rounds of storms possible coming up, one round influencing the next

An active period from Wednesday through the end of the week starts with the potential for storms in the morning to early afternoon today.

Temperatures will feel sultry each afternoon with the humidity, too: a heat index in the middle and upper 90s on Wednesday, lower 100s on Thursday.

There is weaker forcing with what’s possible first (storms starting in north-central Nebraska try to hold together into southeast Nebraska by the early afternoon). We could see an isolated stronger storm out of this in a 1-4PM window today.

But better forcing and thus, a better opportunity for storms and the risk for severe weather comes with an evening round starting up in western Nebraska and pushing southeast through the night.

The recent update from the Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the overall risk for severe weather in Nebraska. An Enhanced (Level 3 of 5) risk is in place for northern Nebraska with increasing confidence in a damaging wind threat that could exceed 75 mph this evening.

Hail will be possible, too.

This would be yet another round that arrives in southeast Nebraska late, closer to – if not after – midnight.

What happens Wednesday will influence possible storms on Thursday, with the overall risk for severe weather shifting west a bit more. The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center has a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk over a very large area of Nebraska. Isolated tornadoes, hail and damaging wind will all be possible with the setup on Thursday.

Spc Thursday

Heavy rainfall will also be a concern for some instances of flash flooding with very high rainfall rates in eastern Nebraska.

Then the work week ends with another lower end risk for severe weather Friday. A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk highlights southern and eastern Nebraska with storms tapering off through the day.

Spc Friday

The weekend looks drier, and I will say: less humid, especially on Saturday!
