Lincoln woman sent $200,000 to scammer in China posing as police officer, LPD says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 24-year-old Lincoln woman was scammed out of $200,000 by someone in China claiming to be a police officer, authorities say.
The Lincoln Police Department said Wednesday that the scam began in April.
The scammer, posing as a police officer, contacted the woman and told her that someone was trying to use her passport to flee the country.
About a month later, the scammer said someone was trying to use her credit card to buy drugs, according to LPD.
The victim ended up sending two payments totaling $200,060.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
