Inmate assaulted staff member with homemade weapon at Tecumseh prison, officials say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institute was attacked by an inmate on Wednesday, state officials say.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said a staff member was in a support building when an inmate assaulted them with a homemade weapon.
Several other staff members responded to the assault and restrained the inmate.
The injured staff member got stitches at the hospital for cuts to the arm, thumb and forehead, according to the state officials.
An investigation is ongoing. The findings will be given to the county attorney to determine if the inmate will face criminal prosecution.
The state’s disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions such as loss of good time, officials said.
