Former Husker, Astros top prospect Brice Matthews is headed to the MLB

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Houston Astros have called up their top prospect in former Husker Brice Matthews.

Matthews, a former 1st round draft pick, has been tearing it up in Triple-A with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys this season.
The Humble, Texas, native is slashing .283/.400/.476 with 12 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 39 RBI.
Major League Baseball has Matthews ranked as the No. 98 overall prospect in baseball.

Matthews will become the 42nd Nebraska baseball player to reach the Major Leagues.
This marks the first MLB call-up for Matthews, who joins the Astros for this weekend’s home series against the Texas Rangers.
The first game in the series is set for 7:10 pm on Friday.
