Five teens lead authorities on high-speed chase in stolen vehicle in southeast Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Five teens were arrested early Saturday morning after leading authorities on a high-speed chase, the York County Sheriff’s Office says.

Just before 3 a.m., a deputy saw an SUV driving over 100 mph on Interstate 80 in York County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy eventually caught up and tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver accelerated and fled into Seward County.

According to the sheriff’s office, the pursuit continued until a Seward County deputy spiked the SUV’s tires, stopping the chase on Highway 15 three miles south of the 379 interchange.

Five juveniles — ranging from 13-14 years old — exited the vehicle and were detained without further incident.

The vehicle was later reported stolen by the owner, according to the sheriff’s office.

Three of the five teens were taken to the Madison Detention Center and charged with the following:

  • Theft by receiving stolen property $5,000+
  • Speeding 36 mph+
  • Flight to avoid arrest
  • Willful reckless driving
  • Minor in possession of alcohol
  • Possession of an open alcohol container
  • Possession of marijuana over one ounce, less than one pound
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Various other traffic violations
