Lincoln Police captain steps down after internal investigation

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln Police captain resigned Thursday after an internal investigation, the city says.

Capt. Jake Dilsaver was accused of sexual misconduct in at least one lawsuit, but the city said the internal investigation was not related to pending lawsuits.

Dilsaver used to lead the Lincoln Police Department’s Special Victims Unit.

He was placed on administrative leave in March and removed from command of the unit, which investigates sex crimes.

That same month, Nebraska Public Media reported that Dilsaver had sent multiple sexual text messages to then-Officer Sarah Williams.

Williams sued the city in 2020, alleging workplace harassment and discrimination, but the lawsuit did not specifically mention Dilsaver.

The suit has since been settled.

Former Officer Angela Sands then sued the city in 2023, accusing Dilsaver of sending Williams unsolicited pictures of his genitals.

He was on duty and in uniform when he sent the pictures, the lawsuit says.

The suit alleges that several dispatchers also complained of unwanted sexual messages from Dilsaver.
