Columbus Police fatally shoot female after officer injured, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – One person was killed Saturday afternoon in an officer-involved shooting in Columbus.

It happened while the Columbus Police Department was conducting an investigation near 13th Street and 30th Avenue, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

A female attacked one of the officers with a knife, the patrol said, injuring the officer.

Authorities said another officer fired their weapon, hitting the female.

Officers attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer who was injured was taken to a hospital but has since been released.

The patrol said it was asked to investigate the shooting.
