LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One person was killed and another is injured after a tree fell on a car in Waterloo during Saturday’s storm.

Just before 7 a.m., it was reported that someone was trapped after a tree fell on their vehicle at Two Rivers State Recreation Area.

When the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department arrived, they found a female with fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire department said a male passenger was pinned in the vehicle, which sustained extensive damage from the fallen tree.

Extraction of the male passenger was difficult due to the size and weight of the tree, according to the fire department.

Officials said it took about 90 minutes to get the man out of the vehicle.

Once extracted, the man was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
