LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Husker volleyball is back. Nebraska put on a show for the fans Saturday afternoon in their annual Red-White scrimmage, marking Dani Busboom Kelly’s first unofficial match.

Saturday’s match drew in 8,414 at John Cook Arena, where Team Red defeated Team White 3-1. But, several Huskers switched jerseys throughout the day so it was a really mixed bunch.

Rebekah Allick began her senior campaign on a high note, recording a match high 16 kills, and added 5 blocks. But, she says when competing against her own teammates that can bring different challenges.

“I think it was good. It was definitely a different match from the spring. To me, the spring match was more like big ten play. This felt more like a debut of who we are and what we’ve been working on,” said Allick. “It’s really hard to play against your own teammates when you know their tendencies. Nothing really surprises you.”

Allick was also surprised with a special award during the match. After the 1st set, Allick was announced as the 2025 lifter of the year. She says she wasn’t aware she was being honored until seconds before.

“I wanted to cry. It feels good to be appreciated. Especially on things that I hold dear to me,” said Allick. “I go hard in practice and the weight room, typically where people can sometimes take those for granted. My teammates also voted for that, they wanted to see me holding that. It meant a lot.”

There was a lot of new faces making some first impressions in their first ever game at the Devaney Center. Some standouts included Freshman Kenna Cogill, Virgina Adriano, and Baylor transfer Allie Szcech. But, freshman Teraya Sigler also had quite a performance, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Head Coach Dani Busboom Kelly was pleased with what she saw Saturday. “We wanted to have a lot of even teams, and have a competitive game. We did that,” said Busboom Kelly. “We saw some players step up in some big moments which was great. But, it also showed some things we need to work on. Hopefully we’ll be better in the alumni match next week.”

The Alumni match is set for 6 p.m. next Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

The Alumni squad will feature former Huskers Jordan Larson, Kelly Hunter, Lauren Stivrins, Kenzie Maloney, Annika Albrecht, Gina Mancuso, Callie Schwarzenbach, Lindsay Krause, Leyla Blackwell and Ally Batenhorst.
