‘Glad to have her back’: Hometown roots for Dani Busboom Kelly during Husker coaching debut

ADAMS, Neb. (KLKN) — The tight-knit community of Adams has watched Dani Busboom Kelly’s career closely.

As she makes her debut as Nebraska’s volleyball coach, those who’ve known her since her childhood said they can’t be any more thrilled to see her in action so close to home again.

“We love her, and we are so glad to have her back home,” said Jenny Lempka, Busboom Kelly’s best friend of 30 years.

Lempka said this is about more than just headlines; it’s personal.

While the AVCA First Serve Showcase at Pinnacle Bank Arena is a big moment across the volleyball world, back in Adams, locals are excited for the representation.

“To have her performing in front of a huge audience at PBA is so exciting for all of us,” Lempka said.

She said she’ll be watching every serve this weekend.

Busboom Kelly’s path from small-town Nebraska to national recognition is inspiring all generations.

“I’m going to the game tonight with my mom, who’s known Dani forever; my mother-in-law, who’s a huge Husker fan and has known Dani for a long time; and my daughter Molly, who’s 9 and adores and loves Dani,” Lempka said.

At Freeman Public Schools in Adams, ordered more Husker T-shirts and Busboom Kelly gear to give out to show support for the hometown hero.

“What more could you ask for?” Lempka said. “She’s going to have an arena full of people cheering for her, supporting her. We couldn’t be more excited.”

She said she’s just happy to see her best friend live in action, doing what she loves to do.

“She is living her dream, and we couldn’t be more happy and proud of her,” Lempka said.
