Lincoln man convicted of sexual assaults as far back as 2008

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was found guilty Monday of sexually assaulting two girls almost a decade apart.

Armando Medrano, 54, pleaded no contest to first-degree sexual assault and third-degree sexual assault of a child.

Under a plea deal, the first charge was reduced from first-degree sexual assault of a child. One count of witness tampering was also dropped.

The conviction marks the culmination of a yearslong investigation into Medrano.

In 2017, a 14-year-old girl reported that Medrano assaulted her multiple times. She described the assaults “in detail,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Medrano was scheduled to come to Lincoln Police Department headquarters for an interview on Oct. 2, 2017, but he never showed up.

Court documents say he went to Guatemala.

Then in 2022, a woman reported that Medrano repeatedly sexually assaulted her when she was a girl.

Police said it started in 2008, when she was 11, and continued about four times a week for three years.

The woman told police that she knew Medrano had moved back to Lincoln because she had seen him around town.

Court documents indicate that police tried to find Medrano for the next two years but were unsuccessful.

A warrant for his arrest was issued in July 2024, and he was taken into custody days later.

Medrano is set to be sentenced on Sept. 24.
