Turning sunny while the feeling of fall continues with cool temperatures

Rolling out of the wet holiday weekend, this week will still have a fall feel to it (meteorological fall did just start September 1st).

Much of central and eastern Nebraska saw 2-4″+ over the past 72 hours, making for a good soaking through Labor Day.

Because of all that recent rain, areas of fog have developed overnight and will be present for the morning commute. Especially dense areas are possible around and north of I-80 Tuesday morning where the Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Eventually the skies will clear out and we’ll see more sunshine on this drier day. A welcome sight after some around the Glenvil, Raymond and Friend areas saw some 5-6″+ of rain through the weekend.

Cooler temperatures are sticking around this week, first with many of us in the 70s in eastern Nebraska this Tuesday. It will be warmer on the western side of the state.

Today through Thursday, daily temperatures will mainly be in the 70s. A bit more of a breeze will pick up around 20-25 mph Wednesday through Friday. But as you can see below, high temperatures by Friday fall to the 60s again.

Between now and then, there will be another chance at some light rain Wednesday.

Northeast Nebraska has a small chance at a storm arriving ahead of the next cold front Tuesday night. That may survive through the night to bring a little rain into southeast Nebraska, but confidence is low in that happening.

Then as the cold front drops farther south, some scattered light showers will be possible Wednesday. Outside of Wednesday, most of this week turns dry.

More smoke is expected to be brought into Nebraska from this front as well by Wednesday evening.

September is the beginning of meteorological fall.

Feels like pumpkin patches are opening real early this year, too. From what we’ve heard, Vala’s in Gretna will open this Friday (after a preview they had Labor Day weekend) and Roca Berry Farm opens by September 13th.
