Cold front Wednesday- Wildfire smoke returns

Here’s what we’re watching this week:

  1.  Wednesday morning, a  small cold front will move through the state bringing temperatures down just a few degrees. There will be some light rain showers in northeast Nebraska Wednesday morning into the early afternoon. We may see a few light rain showers Wednesday afternoon and evening in SW Nebraska.
  2. The cold front will bring north winds and some wildfire smoke from Canada by the afternoon and evening time.
  3. A second cold front will move through Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing scattered storm chances in parts of eastern and SE Nebraska. Some storms could be strong to severe due to small hail and gusty winds.

Wildfire smoke drifts into Nebraska Wednesday afternoon, spreading south through the evening. Those sensitive to smoke may notice impacts. Smoke will linger and possibly thicken through Thursday due to the next front from the west.

Tonight into Wednesday morning, some light rain showers will enter parts of northeast Nebraska along and behind the front. Wednesday afternoon, some of us further south could see a light rain shower or two. Thursday evening, another cold front moves in from the west, giving us a better chance for scattered showers and storms in SE Nebraska. Some storms could be on the strong to severe side with small hail and gusty winds.

Tonight, temperatures feeling quite brisk again in the upper 50s for all of us. Some areas of patchy fog as well. Thursday morning will be a lot chillier in the 40s!

Tonight through Wednesday evening, some light rain showers across parts of northeast and eastern Nebraska along and behind the cold front. Wildfire smoke will be noticeable Wednesday evening and linger throughout Thursday morning.  Thursday evening, another cold front moves in from the west, giving us a better chance for scattered showers and storms in SE Nebraska. Some storms could be on the strong to severe side with small hail and gusty winds. We could see another system bring rain and storm chances next Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will look to stay in the 70s and lower 80s for fall!
