Keeping cool with clouds, northerly breeze Wednesday; wildfire smoke transported into Nebraska

This Wednesday morning, we are awaiting a cold front to drop in from the north. That front will be responsible for a cooler-feeling day with more clouds, a small chance at rain, a northerly breeze and more wildfire smoke.

After temperatures bottom out in the upper 50s and lower 60s early on, we’ll warm to the lower 70s this afternoon in Lincoln.

Then the northerly winds will pick up a bit more behind the front and work to cool us late in the afternoon and toward the evening hours Wednesday.

Those north winds will transport more smoke into various parts of Nebraska over the next couple of days: first, eastern Nebraska by Wednesday evening before another plume for western Nebraska moves in on Thursday.

Air quality will likely worsen to affect sensitive groups in the coming days.

There will be another front Thursday that will drive afternoon temperatures down to the upper 60s Friday. That feature will also drive an evening chance for scattered showers/storms Thursday.
