LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Kearney Police officer was injured early Thursday morning in a crash with a Buffalo County deputy.

Around 7 a.m., officers with the Kearney Police Department were sent to a medical emergency in the northeast part of Kearney.

While responding to the call, a KPD patrol vehicle and a Buffalo County patrol vehicle crashed into each other at the intersection of North Railroad Street and K Avenue.

According to the police department, both vehicles were going east on North Railroad Street.

The police department said the KPD vehicle ended up hitting a curb and rolled before coming to a stop on the driver’s side door.

The officer was trapped in the vehicle and needed extrication, according to the police department.

KPD said the officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries where he was treated and released.

The Buffalo County deputy involved was not injured.

“We are grateful the KPD officer did not sustain more serious injuries, the BCSO deputy was not injured and for the quick and professional response of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, CHI Good Samaritan Emergency personnel, and the KPD and BCSO officers who worked together to provide emergency medical care at the scene,” KPD said on Facebook. “We are also grateful for the Nebraska State Patrol’s assistance in completing this accident investigation as well to the many bystanders that ran over to render aid immediately following the accident.”

There is no word on what caused the crash.
