Lincoln Police Department identifies pedestrian killed while crossing O Street

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was killed early Tuesday morning after he was hit by a pickup while crossing O Street.

On Wednesday, police identified the man as 52-year-old Shawn Schropfer.

The crash happened at the intersection of Northwest 22nd and O streets just before 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a preliminary investigation, a man in his 50s was crossing O Street when he was hit by a Ford F-150.

Crews with Lincoln Fire & Rescue took the man to a hospital, where he later died.

According to the crash report, the driver of the pickup said Schropfer suddenly appeared in front of him as he was driving west on O Street and preparing to get into an upcoming turn lane.

The driver tried to perform CPR on Schropfer before medics arrived.

According to a witness, Schropfer crossed the street without using a crosswalk.

Drugs, alcohol and speed are not suspected of being factors in the crash, police said.

The driver has not been cited.
