Late-July temperatures in October without summer humidity
Summertime temperatures more typical for late July are here for early October and the end of this week.
The key difference is these very warm temperatures come without the summer humidity.
Morning conditions on Friday will be quite comfortable to start out under mostly clear skies. We’ll already be warming to 80° before noon.
Today we’ll likely hit 90° in Lincoln and a few other areas Friday afternoon.
This is above average by about 15-20 degrees! Average temperatures for October 3rd are in the lower 70s.
That’ll mean very warm football weather for games under the Friday night lights. Our Game of the Week in Wahoo is Bishop Neumann against Malcolm. Kickoff temperatures will still be in the lower 80s.
The thing is, instead of the winds normally weakening as the sun goes down, there will be a decent breeze throughout tonight and overnight. Winds out of the south will stay up in the 10-20 mph range.
Then stronger winds are expected by Saturday. Again, high temperatures will be up near 90 degrees for a third day in a row.
Peak southerly wind gusts will be up around 35-45 mph across southeast Nebraska for much of the afternoon and evening.
That may have an effect on the Huskers’ game play on Saturday. The temperatures will be quite toasty as kickoff happens during the hottest time of the day.
Be sure to wear lighter feeling and lighter colored clothing as a fan to keep from overheating! Shade will really help when you can find it, too.
We’ll also be keeping an eye out in western Nebraska for a couple stronger storms during the late afternoon and evening hours Saturday. A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk starts from a line extending from Valentine to Ogallala west for those in the Panhandle.
The cold front from western Nebraska eventually makes it into eastern Nebraska by Sunday, then stalls out. So rain and storm chances will begin by the second part of Sunday and last on and off into Monday and maybe even Tuesday.
There is no current risk for any severe storms for eastern Nebraska on Sunday, though.
