LPD: Investigators determine Lincoln couple took their own lives
Lincoln Police said Wednesday that investigators have determined the shooting deaths of a Lincoln couple were the result of a double suicide.
It happened last month in a neighborhood near West South Street and S Coddington Avenue.
Police responded to the area on reports of a disturbance. When they got to the home they said 58-year-old Eric Garten fired a single shot from a handgun and took his own life. 54-year old Rachel Garten died days later from a gunshot wound.
Bliemeister said he hopes tragedies like this can raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
