LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The city of Lincoln is honoring a homegrown artist.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird on Monday announced that a portion of Canopy Street will be temporarily renamed “James Valentine Blvd.”

The renaming honors Lincoln native, Lincoln Southeast High School graduate, and lead guitarist for Maroon 5, James Valentine.

The band performs at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday, October 28.

Two commemorative signs are posted through Wednesday at the intersection of Canopy and R streets.

“Few things bring people together like great music, and Lincoln is thrilled to celebrate one of our own taking the stage once again at Pinnacle Bank Arena,” Gaylor Baird said in a press release. “Honorarily renaming Canopy Street is our way of saying ‘welcome home’ to James Valentine and recognizing that his hometown talent continues to inspire fans around the world.”

Maroon 5 has sold more than 135 million records and has won three Grammy Awards and three American Music Awards.

A limited number of tickets are available for the concert at ticketmaster.com or the Pinnacle Bank Arena box office.
