LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department announced a new phone service for paratransit scheduling and cancellations.

In a press release on Wednesday, officials said StarTran will implement the new service in mid to late January.

“StarTran continues to invest in tools that make public transportation easier and more accessible,” said Carla Cosier, LTU Assistant Director of Transit. “This phone service will help riders schedule or cancel trips quickly, check ride status, and connect with a live person when needed, all while reducing wait times from several minutes to just seconds.”

The phone service will be available via the regular paratransit phone line and will be activated during periods of high call volume.

After hearing an automated voice prompt introducing the StarTran phone service, riders can then make their request.

Services offered include scheduling and canceling trips, checking ride status and speaking with a StarTran dispatcher.

If nobody is on hold, calls will go directly to a live dispatcher.

Cosier said this additional service comes as StarTran celebrates record paratransit ridership.

In October 2025, StarTran provided 10,180 paratransit boardings, surpassing previous record highs in September and April 2025.

Overall, paratransit trips have increased by more than 15% in the past year and by 23% over the past two years.
