“It’s kind of scary to be honest”: Lincoln man in custody after stabbing, leaving one in critical condition

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A stabbing took place in the middle of Lincoln, Friday afternoon. According to LPD, it happened at an apartment complex off of South 26th and K streets.

Authorities say the incident left a 50-year-old man in critical, but stable condition.

The search for the suspect began when officers got to the scene just before noon.

At first, LPD says the suspect was on the run. Hours later, they tracked him down near 54th and Colby streets, nearly five miles away from where the incident occurred.

Authorities identified the suspect as 28-year-old Jesse Salamanca.

Someone who lives just a few doors down from where it all played out spoke to Channel 8, but wanted to stay anonymous for safety reasons.

“We didn’t think something like this could happen here in the middle of Lincoln, It’s kind of scary to be honest,” they said.

The person claims they got a call from their daughter, and then panic set in.

“My daughter called me and told me there were a bunch of cops here, and that someone was stabbed. That’s all we knew,” they said. “I rushed home, to make sure my daughter was okay, and to make sure everything was okay. We were on lockdown this whole block.”

It’s not clear what led to the stabbing, but officials say charges are pending for Salamanca.
