Strong winds, blowing snow, and near-whiteout conditions will headline Sunday’s forecast. Several wind and winter weather alerts will go into effect across the state.

High winds will be possible across the state on Sunday, prompting High Wind Warnings in place for the entirety of Nebraska. Gusts between 60 and 65 miles per hour will be possible for most of us, though an isolated gust up to 70 miles per hour cannot be ruled out.

Here is a look at the timing of the strongest winds across the state.

A strong system will move across the northern plains, with Nebraska getting the chance for wintry precipitation on the backside of this disturbance. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in place for north-central and northeast Nebraska throughout the day on Sunday. Blowing snow will create near-whiteout conditions.

Here is the latest run of StormCast, showing a brief period of wintry mix changing over to snow for eastern Nebraska late Sunday morning and into the afternoon.

Snow totals for the majority of us are expected to be light. The highest accumulations are expected in far northeast Nebraska. However, with Sunday’s strong winds, widespread travel impacts are still expected.

We start Sunday with temperatures ranging from the middle-teens to the middle 30s across the state.

Overnight lows in Lincoln are expected in the middle 30s with strong winds continuing out of the south and southwest.

Going forward, high temperatures on Sunday will be a little misleading. Most of the above temperatures will likely be seen early in the day, as a strong cold front moves through during the afternoon.

We will start Sunday in the upper 30s in Lincoln before we expect temperatures to fall throughout the afternoon.

Sunday’s cold front is bringing a cold start to the work week for southeast Nebraska. Temperatures on Monday will only reach the upper 20s before rebounding by Tuesday. Highs will soar to the 70s and 80s for the back half of next week.
