LPS teacher and self-trained meteorologist has knack for predicting snow days

By day Chuck Morgan is a geography teacher at Lincoln East High School, but by night he’s a meteorologist, well sort of.

The self–trained weather man takes predicting snow days very seriously.

“It started about 12-years-ago just for fun because I’ve always been interested in the weather. I started saying I think we’ll have a snow day on Tuesday or we’ll have a snow day on such and such a day,” Morgan said.

Some students helped Morgan get on Twitter and he quickly built a following.

Kids from across the district look to him to see whether or not school will be canceled.

In 12 years Morgan record stands at twenty-five correct predictions and four incorrect predictions.

So how does he determine whether or not there will be school?

“It’s not just all guessing. I actually have weather models that I look at. I look at the European, GFS, NAM models all of that and compare all of those. I also listen to our local guys for sure.”

Based off those models Morgan shares his take on the weather and leaves the rest for mother nature to decide.

Even when his predictions are wrong, which is rare, Morgan says it’s a fun way to connect with students.

And for the haters, Morgan said he plans on letting his record speak for itself.

“There’s a lot of fake weather guys out there that are trying to get it all the time, but I just say look at the record. One of my friends says I have an inflated ego, I say that I’ve gone to diva status.”
