Train hits van stuck on railroad tracks in Northeast Lincoln

A train collided with a van Friday night causing a roadway in Northeast Lincoln to temporarily be shut down.

According to Lincoln Police it happened around 7:30 Friday night at the railroad crossing on 33rd street near Cornhusker Highway.

Police say a white van tried to go around the lowered crossing guard arms on the railroad but got stuck on the tracks.

A train, which was traveling at a low rate of speed according to police, hit the van.

The driver of the van did escape before the train hit the vehicle.

No one was injured in the crash, but police say this serves as a reminder to never go around lowered crossing guard arms on railroads.
