‘Nothing like it’: Nebraska Volleyball garnering more national attention with set game at Wrigley Field

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska volleyball team is heading to Chicago in September.

Nebraska will take on Missouri at one of the most iconic sports venues in the nation, Wrigley Field, on Sept. 6.

“It will once again, especially given the major market that Chicago is, garner national headlines,” said John Baylor, the voice of the Husker Volleyball team. “And that’s what it means to play at Nebraska and root for Nebraska Volleyball.”

This isn’t the first time the team has made national headlines.

Nebraska set the record for the most-watched women’s sporting event back in 2023, when they played in front of a crowd of 92,003 fans at Memorial Stadium.

September’s game at Wrigley Field is creating an opportunity for even more national attention.

“The match itself hasn’t been equaled, before or since,” Baylor said. “So that really propelled Nebraska volleyball into the national spotlight. We go to arenas now and set records all the time. We’re like Caitlyn Clark on steroids. There’s a direct line from the stadium match to this, and my guess is that an event like this at Wrigley will be held there nearly every year for Nebraska volleyball. There’s nothing like it.”

Tickets will go on sale on April 9.

With so many eyes on the Nebraska-Missouri match at Wrigley, Baylor said it should provide additional motivation for the teams.

“Detractors of Nebraska Volleyball will have more fuel, and the target on the players’ backs will be even larger,” he said. “Most people, not all, who play the sport want to play for the Huskers, and those who don’t play for the Huskers want to beat the Huskers. That’s why we get everybody’s best effort.”
