Group of UNL students get once-in-a-lifetime experience while working the Masters Tournament
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A group of students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was selected to work in hospitality at the Masters Tournament last week.
The group spent two weeks in Augusta, trading the classroom for long days and even longer shifts, working behind the scenes on golf’s biggest stage.
According to Dr. Ajai Ammachathram, the professor leading the group, the Masters is an amazing place to learn.
“To put into perspective, a student just mentioned yesterday, while we were at the airport, that her standards are different now,” he said. “I think that speaks a lot, and that’s what the Masters is about, right? It’s an amazing place.”
The students weren’t just witnessing history; they were contributing to the experience. Some of the students even served some of the world’s most high-profile guests.
“One word would be unreal,” Hannah Lienmann, a junior hospitality student, said. “People would die to be able to go there. Somebody had mentioned to me that it’s like winning the lottery. That’s how I felt every day, just very blessed to be there.”
The students said the work was demanding, but what they took away far outweighed the tiring days.
“It kind of connects all of us because I didn’t know a lot of the girls prior, even the ones I went to school with,” said junior Calleigh Joslin. “Now I have a lot more friends and connections here, too.”
The course tradition and the moment itself certainly left an impression on the students, but they say it’s what comes next that matters most.
