How long could you survive alone in the woods?
What about in a remote region of Mongolia?
Lincoln native Sam Larson decided to put his survival skills to the test on the History Channel show ALONE.
"You have ten participants they all get thrown into the woods off helicopters and you have all this camera equipment and ten survival items. The goal is to last as long in the wilderness as you can. Everyone is alone, you’re not allowed to talk to each other and the last person standing wins 500 thousand dollars," said Sam Larson.
This isn’t Larson’s first time testing his skills.
He was on ALONE’s first season back in 2015 and lasted 55 days in the Canadian wilderness.
This time around he was better prepared both mentally and physically, even if it mean eating leeches to survive.
"Ugh. If this was smellovision you guys would be getting it. Alrighty one leech kabob coming right up. Awe what the heck get all these four at once. I’m still deciding if I’m going to throw up or not."
Even though contestants have to find food and shelter, they are allowed to bring ten items with them from home and a picture of their family.
For Larson being away from his family was the hardest part of the show.
"I have a little boy who’s two and then my daughter was born seven days before I had to get on a plane to Mongolia, so I was really missing my family, especially the little baby."
Knowing he stood to win half a million dollars for his family kept Larson going.
Because it’s still airing, Larson wouldn’t tell me how far he made it in the show, he did say after flying home to Nebraska he made one stop.
"The first thing i did when i got home was stop at the McDonald’s on the way back from the Omaha airport."
If you want to see how far Larson makes it in the show you can tune in Thursday’s at 9 pm on the history channel.
