UPDATE: 57- year-old dump truck driver dead after colliding with train near Ashland

UPDATE:

Cass County Sheriff says a 57-year-old man was driving a dump truck when it collided with a train at the railroad crossing at Horseshoe Lake in rural Ashland.

Officials say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The sheriff’s office along with, Nebraska State Patrol, Cass County Emergency Management, Ashland Fire and Rescue, and BNSF Railroad agents are still on scene investigating. 

The identity of the driver has not yet been released. 


The Cass County Sheriff’s Office reports that at least one person is dead after a train vs. truck accident near Ashland Tuesday morning.

Officials say the accident happened at around 7:45 a.m. near Horseshoe Lake.

The Ashland Fire Department said on Facebook that access to the lake will be completely shut down for a few hours.

They’re asking residents stuck in or outside of the lake area to be patient with authorities. 

Investigators with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office are on scene. 

No additional information is available at this time.
