Above is the latest run of StormCast, showing the potential for storms on Friday evening and then again late Saturday into early Sunday.
Golf ball-sized hail and 65-70 mile per hour wind gusts will be possible in the strongest storms on Friday night and into early Saturday.
Scattered severe storms will be possible again on Saturday evening for the majority of the state. A Slight Risk of severe weather is in place from southwestern to northeast Nebraska. Large hail and damaging winds are the main concerns in the strongest storms, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
Another round of storms is in the forecast on Sunday afternoon, prompting an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) risk of severe weather for central and northeastern Nebraska. Numerous severe storms will be possible, with the potential for a few tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds.
Monday afternoon may give us another shot at all severe weather hazards in southeast Nebraska. There are still a few question marks on the timing of this system as it departs the central plains, and more details on the forecast will be available in the next day or two.
Forecast:
Buried in our potential for severe weather will be the warm stretch of temperatures through this weekend. Highs on Friday across the state will range from the upper 80s to the mid-90s.
We should see a fair amount of sunshine in Lincoln ahead of Friday evening’s storm chances. Likely looking at a new record high for the day (Current Record: 93° – 2001) with forecast temperatures in the mid-90s.

Overnight lows will range from the 50s to the 60s statewide, with more moisture and the potential for a few clouds in southeast Nebraska working to keep us warmer.
Expect overcast skies on Friday night into Saturday morning for the Capital City. Storm chances should be wrapped up before midnight with a light north-northeasterly wind.
Hot and humid weather sticks around through the weekend with storm chances continuing into early next week. A cold front will finally push the summer-like temperatures out of the plains by the middle of next week, with highs returning to the 60s and 70s.
