City of Lincoln says eight pools are now open following first-day overcrowding, mechanical issues

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Lincoln on Tuesday addressed the issues that caused multiple city pools to shut down on opening day.

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department said eight pools are now open, but Arnold Pool will stay closed due to mechanical issues.

According to the city, Ballard, Irvingdale, Highlands, Eden, University Place and Star City Shores had to close early due to overcrowding, which led to water quality disruptions.

Family swim nights begin May 26 and are offered from 6 to 8 p.m. for $15 per family (two adults and four children) at the following pools:

  • Monday: Belmont
  • Tuesday: Eden
  • Wednesday: Irvingdale and Highlands
  • Thursday: Ballard
  • Friday: Arnold Heights and Woods

City pools are open seven days a week from 1 to 6 p.m. Locations are as follows:

The free Trago Spray ground in Trago Park, at 22nd and U streets, will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, from Friday, May 29, through Labor Day, September 7.
