‘$4,000 beer order’: Oklahoma City bars preparing for resurgence of Husker fans during WCWS
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — As Husker fans invade Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series, several bars and restaurants are preparing early.
“I’m not risking it. I’m putting in a big order, plan on them coming down,” said Ryan Noe, the manager at Social Capital in OKC. “I know they’re an insanely passionate group of fans.”
The Social Capital in downtown OKC plans to have extra employees, just in case.
“We’re used to high volumes and stuff like that,” Noe said. “With that being said, experiencing what we experienced with Nebraska fans, it’ll probably be an all-hands-on-deck.”
The Husker Alumni Association is planning a pre-game party at the beer garden.
And after fans sold out the city of Busch Light when the Husker men’s basketball team played in March, the beer garden knew they’d have to be double prepared this go around.
“I just put in a $4,000 beer order, and it was all domestics, Busch Lights, cans and kegs,” Noe said. “I had to hit up my rep and make sure they could give me an early order next Monday cause I only have so much space to put inventory. It’s a lot, it’s extensive, it’s noticeably different, we’ll just say that.”
Although the Social Capital is unbiased when it comes to cheering on a sports team, the Huskers do hold a bit of an edge.
“It’s a good group of people, and it’s fun to share in their success,” Noe said. “So I will be rooting for them, and I’ll be breaking out my Cornhusker shirt for the week. I hope Nebraska goes deep so we can enjoy their fans as long as possible, cause they like to drink and that helps sales and makes for a good time.”
