LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man was arrested on Tuesday after police say he stole a car and assaulted a woman.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers with the Lincoln Police Department were sent to the parking lot of a gas station near 27th and Superior streets.

LPD said the vehicle had been left running and unlocked with the keys inside as the driver, a 53-year-old Lincoln woman, went into the store.

When she came back out, her 2020 silver Honda CR-V was gone. Authorities found the unoccupied vehicle nearby.

After an investigation, police said 38-year-old Anthony Sandoval was the person responsible for stealing the SUV and assaulting a woman known to him, causing injuries to her face.

Sandoval was found hiding under a bridge near Cornhusker Highway and 29th Street.

He was arrested and taken to the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking of $5,000 or more, DUI, driving under suspension and third-degree domestic assault.
