OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) — On July 9, officers responded to a crash around 6:30 p.m. where a Subaru Impreza had been split in two. A 10-year old and 5-year-old boy from the Subaru were taken to the Children’s Hospital  with severe injuries. The 10-year-old boy later died from the injuries.

The Subaru was traveling westbound on W Center Rd. when a Chevrolet Malibu hit it going eastbound. The Subaru was ripped in half due to the severity of impact. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

After investigation, officials from the Omaha Police Department (OPD) arrested Tanner Hunt, 28, for two counts of driving under the influence causing serious injury, refusing DUI test, driving under revocation and no proof of insurance. He is being held at Douglas County Corrections.

OPD says the Omaha Police Traffic Unit and the Douglas County Attorney’s Office are working on getting amended charges.
